While most attention is being paid to the multi trillion dollar “social spending” bill that is currently being pushed by Democratic legislators, Biden’s nominee to fill a vacancy on the Federal Communications Commission is finally garnering the attention it deserves. FCC nominee Gigi Sohn poses an immense threat to our constitutional rights and would be an unequivocal disaster for our freedom of speech.
The highly partisan pick by Biden is the latest effort of the new administration to supercharge the regulatory state and strip the freedoms enshrined in our nation’s Constitution and Bill of Rights. The real goal of this move by Democrats in power is to silence conservative voices and media outlets and censor the information that is available to our citizens.
Gigi Sohn is a far left activist and was quoted as saying that Fox News was “state-sponsored” propaganda and has made it quite clear that she would deploy many new restrictions and regulations on conservative media groups to ensure that they would not be able to speak freely. “For all my concerns about #Facebook, I believe that Fox News has had the most negative impact on our democracy. It’s state-sponsored propaganda, with few if any opposing viewpoints. Where’s the hearing about that?” Ms. Sohn was also an FCC official during the Obama administration and founded the liberal group Public Knowledge, which has favored more government oversight of the internet.
This nominee is a great danger to our 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech. The federal government shouldn’t be censoring our news outlets because they hold a different point of view. If confirmed by the Senate, Sohn would weaponize the FCC against conservative media. This abuse of power will not stand- we must do all we can to block this nominee. Luckily, many Republican legislators have acknowledged the danger she poses to our rights and announced that they will do all they can to preserve our freedoms and keep her out of this role. “I will do everything in my power to convince colleagues on both sides of the aisle to reject this extreme nominee,” said Sen Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

This includes freedom of speech and information. At the root of these freedoms is our ability to speak uncensored about what is happening in our country, and rely on our news outlets to be able to share freely and without fear of retribution by our federal government.
Please take the time to call your US Senators and tell them Gigi Sohn is WRONG for this position and that our Constitutional Rights will not be violated!
